Graduate Careers Via NOVUS Scheme

We are proud to be working in close partnership with a number of universities including Huddersfield and Aston to offer support to undergraduates interested in developing their career within the transport and logistics industry as part of the NOVUS Scheme. Through structured exposure to our transport operation, we offer a 12 month industrial placement during the third year of studies to individuals who meet the exacting standards of the scheme. An offer of permanent employment in a graduate role is guaranteed to participants on this scheme following completion of their studies, provided they have achieved a minimum 2:1 degree classification.

Industrial Placements at HOYER 

On an industrial placement at HOYER students can choose to spend the full 12 months at a fixed location; either at the forefront of our operation in one of our busy terminals, or in the heart of our Head Office in the Control Centre in Huddersfield. Alternatively, to gain the best all-round experience and knowledge of the Company, we offer a placement incorporating both 6 months in the Field and 6 months at Head Office.

Placements at HOYER are hands-on; students are given responsibility and accountability at any early stage, which increases as they demonstrate their abilities and knowledge of the Company. Experience and knowledge gained on an industrial placement with HOYER puts students in a strong position to apply for our Management Development Programme on completion of their studies.

Person Specification

Successful applicants will have a highly analytical mind and be comfortable with numbers. Working within a fast moving, dynamic environment, you will need to be flexible in your approach to work, whilst remaining focused on your key, longer term objectives.

We look for individuals with an outgoing personality, who can demonstrate achievement in both academic study and extra-curricular activities, with an ability to influence others and work as part of a team. The successful candidate will have a strong determination to succeed in a demanding environment and be able to demonstrate potential business acumen and an ability to think on their feet.

Selection Criteria

  • Must be on the NOVUS Scheme studying an undergraduate sandwich degree (preferably Business or Logistics)
  • Be on track to achieve a 2:1 degree
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft packages)
  • A driving licence would be an advantage especially for placements based at a field location which can be difficult to reach via public transport

Application Window and process

The application window and process is communicated to students via course leaders. HOYER attends the NOVUS placement fair at Huddersfield University which usually takes place in November. Following a pre-selection interview, applicants are invited to attend an Assessment Centre where they are given an opportunity to demonstrate their strengths in a number of different assignments.
